The short review is this place is excellent. The food was first rate and the owners are very nice and make the experience very enjoyable. Go if you get a chance. I am huge fan of this style of Chinese food. State College has been having several great places opening up recently. I am sure this place has the standard Americanized Chinese food, but I would recommend getting some of the more authentic dishes. Talk to the owners, they are super friendly and will bend over backwards to make sure you have an enjoyable experience. I would recommend trying at least one dish that they recommend. The cold noodles are excellent. Overall the food here is better than Chopstick express (which used to be my favorite in town) but the atmosphere is better and they don't serve your food on Styrofoam. Chopstick Express will probably never get my business again, I got very marginal food/service a few times. Chopstick never seemed to recover after Sichuan Bistro opened up in town. Sichuan Bistro is the place I would recommend if I were stuck in downtown State College. What I really like about Golden Ladle is that it is at the mall, so the parking is always very easy and it is never packed like downtown State College can be. It is located by the Macy's.

worst delivery experience. 2hours waiting for nothing. And they just stop receiving your calls and keep saying "we dont have any orders from you, we need to talk to the boss"

The food was okay but if you're going to get delivery give them 2 hours notice! This is the second time this has happened. It does not take 2 hours to deliver food. I understand things happen like traffic and so on but 2 hours! I would not recommend to anyone.

Update to this review~ shortly after arriving home hubby got sick.. All the symptoms of food poisoning! I'm very grateful that I didn't eat the food I ordered.~ There are only 2 good things I can say about Golden Ladle.. they have fast service & good steamed dumplings. Their other food is loaded with food dyes, corn starch & salt. I specifically ordered pineapple chicken & wonton soup because I had it about a year ago and both were very good. This time the wonton soup came out with so much brown food coloring, salt & pepper that I was glad it only had 2 little wontons in it. My pineapple chicken was served fried & slathered in a tasteless bright orange gloppy cornstarch thickened sauce. There may have been 2 pieces of pineapple in the entire dish. Needless to say I did not eat it. Very disappointed in the quality & flavor of their food. It has really gone down hill over the last 12 months. My husbands General Tso chicken had the same gloppy sauce & his fried rice was bright yellow?! We won't be returning.

Really like this place and its food! The variety is really good, not just American Chinese food. Full of flavor yet not too spicy. Also, the staff there are very warm and friendly.

The best part about Golden Ladle is the management. It is owned and operated by a family so don't be surprised to see an adorable baby or studying children at one of the tables. They're all incredibly friendly and remember faces. The food itself is amazing as well. If you get one of the specials (lunch or dinner), it comes with a main entree, a side (soup, egg roll, or can of soda), and fried or white rice. The soups are a wonderful blend of flavors that warm my tummy on a chilly Happy Valley afternoon. My favorite soup is wonton soup. I usually avoid the pork in wonton soup but Golden Ladle's pork is so flavorful and well-cooked that I eat the entire wonton and even drink the broth. Every entree I have ordered has been enjoyable. The owners and staff have so far been very accommodating on special requests and dietary concerns. The appetizers are great as an individual dish or for group sharing. Everybody I have introduced to Golden Ladle has left happy. I have been coming to Golden Ladle for two years now and have yet to be disappointed.

I've always been super happy with the food and service here. The food is always fresh and delicious and I really enjoy everything I've found. I think my favorite is the Ma Po Tofu. Other restaurants put some strange spice in it that makes it taste earthy, but not Golden Ladle :) Everything they have can be made vegan and is friendly to people of all diets. The delivery is always good, but I also live across the way. I'm not a fan of their rice personally, but I'm sure other people like it. I like mid-length grain rice. They use a shorter grain so it's a little more mushy sometimes.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in the town. Although the menu looks similar with other ones, they offer best service and most original taste. The Chinese Wonton is as original as my childhood taste and here is the only place to have these wonton in the town. I can tell its hand-made wonton and taste awesome! Also the Feichang rice noodle have the best taste in the town although you could see this dish in other restaurants. Highly recommend, though its kind of far away from campus, I ask for delivery every week.

This is by far the best Chinese food in State College. Definitely not what one would expect from a mall restaurant. The food is delicious and so fresh, made with quality ingredients. They also have a lot of vegan options. I have yet to have anything that wasn't beyond my expectations. The delivery is always pretty slow, but certainly worth the wait.

A ray of sunlight in the darkness that is the State College culinary scene. I've only lived here for a few months, but this is the best restaurant in the area that I've eaten in considering price, service, and food quality. They have the run of the mill American Chinese food (General Tso's etc.), but after asking the server (owner?) she directed us to a dish (called something like chicken in a pie) that was sort of like a hot pot. She also recommended the spinach because it was fresh and had it prepared with hot peppers. The food was good and the server tried to accommodate our requests for gluten-free food. Great for inexpensive, tasty, authentic (as far as I could tell) food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
